We actively recruit
volunteers to assist with our classes. Volunteers earn free classes
while working behind the scenes with our talented chef-instructors.
There are many benefits to volunteering for a
class, including:
- Receive class recipe packet
- Sample the wine and food after the class
- Earn one free class for
every three volunteer classes
- Interact behind-the-scenes with chefs and
winemakers
- Learn new cooking tips and techniques
- Have fun!
Please note that we do our best to be able to serve a complete meal to each volunteer but there are sometimes unpredictable situations that decrease the total amount of food for some or, in extreme cases, all of the courses. In these cases, paying guests are our first priority and staff will be served as possible.
Volunteer obligations include:
- Committing approximately 6 hours of time for
each volunteer class, most of which is on your feet.
- Arrive 1.5 hours before the class to help prep and set tables
- Help plate and serve food, answer questions, facilitate cooking,
serve water and wine and clear dishes
during the class (usually 3 hours in duration) and, in a few cases, some
dishwashing
- Stay 1 hour after the class to clean
and pack up
- Have hair pulled back and wear close-toed shoes and nice, casual
clothing (no sleeveless shirts; jeans discouraged except at farm
classes; we provide aprons)
- Provide at least 5 days notice if you are
unable to attend a volunteer class
- Have fun!
Our goal is to have enough volunteers (plus the
chef-instructor and a Relish manager) at each class (in some cases as many as 6 volunteers for roving events) so the work goes
easily and quickly for all. The number varies depending on the class,
where it is, how many attendees, etc. It is critical for volunteers to attend the
classes they commit to.
Expect a combination of moderately hard work (i.e.,
loading and unloading truck for roving classes) and easy work (i.e., setting tables, pour
water & wine). That
said, we always have fun.
After your third volunteer class, you can choose
any class to attend as a student up to an $80 value.
We will assign volunteers on a first come, first
served basis, so check out the volunteer class
list and contact us by phone or
email to select the
available class(es) that interest you.
For private and corporate events, we hire and pay
servers to assist with prep, serving and clean up. Private event servers are provided food but wine is limited to the event guests. The same obligations for volunteers apply to paid servers.
Please contact us at info@relishculinary.com if
you are interested in paid server opportunities. Prior food service
experience required.
